Camcorder External Microphones

by Robin

I will be videotaping a choir concert at out local high school and have a Sony Handycam with the microphone plug-in on top. What type of external microphone do you recommend I use in this case?

Camcorder External Microphones

Hi Robin

Your best bet for getting good sound from a choir is to place a wireless microphone on a stand up near the center of the choir in front of the audience.

The Azden mic shown on the camcorder mic page would be ideal for your use.

If you are trying to record a concert that is being done professionally, the ideal place to get your sound is from the mix board. Ask the sound engineer if you can plug into one of his outputs (often "tape out" used for making an old fashioned tape recording). You can plug a cable from your computer to the mix board and record directly to your audio software.

Hope that helps
