webcam microphones

I want to use the webcam to live stream a class I teach. This means the camera will be across the room.

Is there any webcam that has an external mic jack? Or is using a camcorder the only way to use an external mic.

Thank you.

Jennifer

webcam microphones

Hi Jennifer,

For that kind of setup, you will need to get a 'tape' camcorder with an external mic port.

You can go for a high definition tape camcorder (HDV) like the Canon HV30 or HV40 ($600-$700) or if your budget doesn't run to that, you could consider buying a used standard definition miniDV tape camcorder like the excellent Panasonic PV-GS250 with has 3CCD chips and the all important mic port.

You could pick one of these up on Ebay for around $200, which is a bargain. The picture quality is excellent and fine for web video.

I loved my Panasonic PV-GS250 and still have it. It's a great camcorder. You also won't get the usual problems with editing with HD, which is a bonus.

Hope that helps?
