Zooming in and out one camera

by Nick Pfennigwerth

Hi!
Is there a way to to zoom from the subjects half body to a closer shot (let's say chest to head) throughout the length of the film with one camera and only me (the subject) doing the filming?

If you mean slowly zooming in on the presenter whilst shooting for the entire length of the video automatically, then the answer is no (You can however add it in the editing process if you wish using pan/crop).

I'm not sure why you would want to anyway, as most professionals rarely use the zoom whilst shooting, only using it to frame a shot before shooting.

Having lots of continual motion from using the zoom is not a great experience for the viewer.

If you want to do that as the presenter AND camera operator, then you will need a remote for your camcorder and a monitor to see what is being shot.

You can then zoom in and out to frame the shot without moving from your spot as the presenter, and also record/stop etc.
