Green Screen Creases and Halo

I seem to be getting a very poor result with green screen. I thought I might be better getting the pop up screen instead of what I already have which is the muslin cloth, as it seems to have many creases. There is sometimes a halo of distortion and areas aren't keying out. When I used Mac iMovie it seemed to do it much better. Sony Vegas you do it manually and it doesn't produce a good result. is it worth persevering with?

Green Screen Creases and Halo

Hi Michael

Muslin cloth is ideal for using as a back ground for a green screen, so that is not your problem. And I don't think it is related to whether you are using iMovie or Sony Vegas.

If you go back and study my green screen tutorial and read the section on lighting you will find that your lighting is the most critical factor in creating a good green screen effect.

Make sure you have 3 sources of lighting set up per the diagram and that they are not direct lights - use umbrella lights.

Finally, make sure the person you are shooting is far enough away from the back ground so that they do not cast shadows.

Hope that helps

Paul :-)
